Australian International Airshow Geelong, Victoria
The Australian International Airshow is a large air show that takes place in Geelong, Victoria. It is considered to be the biggest one of its kind in the southern half of the globe. It is held every two years during an odd year in March. Very often there are guest planes from the United States Air Force and United States Navy. The focus of the show is aerobic displays with airplanes. The host airport for the show is the Avalon Airport.
The tradition of organizing this show started in 1957 by the manager of Port Melbourne Government Aircraft Factory. He decided to put a special show with the planes in order to show to the employees of the company the finished product. Most of them were working only on a separate part of the planes and did not have a good idea about how does the final result looks like. The show has taken place every two years since then. The next one will be from the 1-6 March 2011.
Geelong
Geelong is the second biggest city in the Victoria state in Australia. It is a port city on the Corio Bay and the Barwon River. The city was established during the first half of the 19th century. It was named after the aboriginal name of the region meaning land of cliffs. The city grew thanks to the gold rush in Ballarat. Later, the city turned into a manufacturing center. AVALON 2011
The Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition in 2011 will occur for six days in March from the first to the sixth of March. The show will be separated into two parts. The first three days and half of the forth day will be restricted to industry sessions. Only accredited industry, defence and government representatives will be allowed to these trade days.
The Second part of the event will be open to the general public. It will start on Friday afternoon. The pinnacle of the show will be the Friday night aero acrobatics display. It will be followed on the weekend by additional flying displays.
Furthermore, conferences, seminars, and symposia will be held at the Avalon Airport, Melbourne and Geelong during the show week. Those are related to the industry and the technology connected with plane building, operation and exploitation. Also, a career and skills program will be offered to chosen students, professors and professionals.
The different types of planes that will participate in the display vary from military to civil aircrafts. Combat planes, UAVs (unmanned air vehicle), heavy lift helicopters, maritime patrols, tactical transport to airline, rotary wing, training, airsport, and recreational aircrafts will shown for the duration of the show.
